The men’s basketball team Dominican Republic debuted this Friday with a victory 87–81 before the hosts of Filipinas to capitalize on Group A at the FIBA Basketball World Championship 2023.
In a record-setting ticket-sold game with more than 35,000 fans in attendance at the Philippine Arena, the NBA superstar Karl Anthony Towns led the Dominican offense with 26 points and 10 rebounds, in just over 34 minutes of play.
Towns shot 5/16 from the field for an average of 31.2%although he made 16 of 16 free throws for the 93.8%.

In that same order, Víctor Liz, who was injured at the end of the match, contributed 18 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Dominican cause, while Andrés Feliz stood out with 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists, in 30 minutes of game.
For the defeated team, Jordán Clarkson was the top scorer with 28 points, seven rebounds and the same number of assists, shooting 18/8 from the field for 44%.
June Mar Fajardo, contributed 16 points and seven rebounds for the cause of the hosts.
The Dominican team launched 73/29 of field goals for a 39.7%grabbed 43 rebounds and provided 18 assists.
Instead, the Philippines as a whole shot for an average of 48.2% 56/27 from the field, grabbed 35 rebounds and assisted 16 times.
The next game for the Dominican Republic will be played next Sunday at 4:00 in the morning local time by the Italian team.
