MLB Announces Suspensions and Fines Following Fight Between José Ramírez and Tim Anderson

The fight between Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez and Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson had its consequences and Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the suspensions of the eight involved in the game incident. Saturday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

MLB Senior Vice President of Field Operations Michael Hill was in charge of announcing Anderson’s six-game suspension. While Ramírez received three games and Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase received one game for his participation in the fight that cleared the benches in the sixth inning.

In addition, managers Pedro Grifol and Terry Francona, as well as Guardians coach Mike Sarbaugh, received their commitment suspensions.

The suspensions of Anderson and Ramírez are on hold, as both players appealed Major League Baseball’s decision. For their part, Grifol, Francona and Clase will serve their suspensions on Monday while Sarbaugh will serve his on Tuesday.

All those involved received economic fines, which were not disclosed. Also fined were White Sox starter Michael Kopech and Guardians’ Venezuelan Gabriel Arias.

Ramírez called Anderson “disrespectful”

The Dominican Ramírez spoke after the game and explained from his point of view, what led to the tempers getting so heated.

I understand that he (Tim Anderson) is not respecting the game, not since yesterday, but he has been doing that for a long time and he has been told. I myself have spoken to him, I have told him that he cannot do that because he could injure a boy. Here everyone is after a future, they have a family to support and it is something that must be taken care of and I understood that what he did is not right, ”he said.

And he revealed: “He (Anderson) has been doing that for a long time. I am covering my team, the young guys, I have to protect them. I was not looking for problems, that was not my point, to fight, but he already invited me to fight, so let’s do it.

According to Ramírez himself, this is the first expulsion in his MLB career: “For me looking for trouble is not an option, I just want to play the game I love and have fun.“.
