MotoGP, Austrian GP: Bagnaia wins at Spielberg, 2nd Binder, 3rd Bezzecchi

“Pecco hasn’t missed a single corner since Friday”: this is the satisfied comment of Valentino Rossi, present on the track at Spielberg, after the victory of his protégé. Impeccable, inexorable on the pace, perfect in every phase of the race: a Bagnaia in such good shape is perhaps unbeatable for anyone. Fifth victory of the season for the official Ducati rider, net of the Sprints, out of 10 Grands Prix held so far. 50% of what has been raced to date and which translates into a 62-point advantage over Jorge in the World Championship standings Martinfinished in seventh place after having served a slow penalty lap (decision arrived on Saturday evening) for having triggered the carambola in the start of the Sprint.

Binder Bagnaia’s only opponent (for a few laps)

The only opponent on the track of Bagnaia it was Brad for a few rounds Binderlike Saturday in the quick race: the South African of the KTM tried to keep up with Bagnaia, but had to give up when he realized that his tires wouldn’t keep up with the pace set by the winner. “I didn’t keep anything in my pocket”, underlined Brad, to justify the second place in a row, after the Sprint on Saturday. But Bagnaia won the race above all at the start: “Before we started a hair worse than the KTM – explained Bagnaia -, but in this race we started the same way, with a little more starting point. Ducati continues to work…”.

Bezzecchi, splendid overtaking on Alex Marquez

Quickly filed away, the victory speech became animated the duel for third place between Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi, won by the latter, but not without effort. The Spaniard, very strong under braking, made it difficult for him, but shortly afterwards he also had to give in to the teammate of the Romagna rider, Luca Marini, finished in fourth place. “Overtaking? I give myself 8, actually 7 and a half, since I screwed him twice – the sympathetic comment of the pilot Mooney VR46 -. I did a bit of elastic with Alex who brakes very hard, so as not to raise the pressure in the front tire too much. So I threw myself in a bit hoping for God…“.

Aprilia below expectations

Vinales disappointment: starting from the front row, he paid off like on Saturday, in the Sprint, a bad start which made him lose nine positions in the first corner. Aprilia didn’t get what was hoped for, the premises after the first day of practice were decidedly higher, but not even Aleix Espargaró was able to meet expectations, finishing in ninth position, ahead of Enea Bastianini who, beyond the result, showed signs of recovery, at least in terms of combativeness. MotoGP is back on track the first of September with the free practice in Barcelona.
