The duo made up of sailors Mateo Majdalani-Eugenia Bosco, winner of the silver medal at the Peru 2019 Pan American Games in the Nacra 17 sailing class, qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by obtaining the place for the country in the World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands, and winning the selective formalized by the Argentine Yachting Federation (Fay) and which included the Princess Sofia Trophy, from Spain; the French Olympic week in Hyeres and the Olympic Test Event in Marseille this year.
“We ensured the place and the internal selective,” Majdalani said in statements to Télam from the Netherlands minutes after disputing the penultimate day of regattas in the event.
The Argentine pairing was sixth, ninth and eighth in today’s tests, finished seventh with 73 points in the qualifying phase and agreed to tomorrow’s medal race, the final test that will be played by the ten best of the qualifying phase that has the Italians as leaders Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti -Olympic champions in Tokyo 2021- with 29 units.
“It was a good day and we arrived with chances to move up in the medal race. So, very happy and looking forward to a good medal race tomorrow. I’m very relieved, it was a lot of work and it’s an incredible step for us,” said Majdalani .
With this result in the World Cup – the last selective tournament for the Olympic Games formalized by the Argentine Yachting Federation (Fay) and which included the Princess Sofia Trophy, from Spain; the French Olympic week of Hyeres and the Olympic Test Event in Marseille this year- the Majdalani-Bosco duo beat the pairing made up of Santiago Lange- 2016 Olympic champion- and Victoria Travascio, who came in 17th with 158 units.
Majdalani and Bosco obtained eighth place in Spain; the silver medal in Hyeres and came sixth in Marseille while the Lange-Travascio duo finished 13th at the Princess Sofia Trophy in April; 16th in Hieres and did not contest the Test Event.
