Öncü and Vietti thwart the victories of Holgado and Acosta in Moto3 and Moto2

MADRID, 20 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Turkish rider Deniz Öncü (KTM) achieved victory this Sunday in Moto3 at the Austrian Grand Prix, the tenth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, in a race in which he benefited from the final fight between the World Championship leader, the Spanish Dani Holgado (KTM), and the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna), while the Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex) frustrated in Moto2 the victory of the Spanish Pedro Acosta (Kalex), who even so strengthens his leadership.

An overtaking of both in the last corner of the Austrian track served the Ottoman to sign his second victory of the year. Only five thousandths separated him from Holgado, while the Japanese driver closed the podium at Red Bull Ring.

In spite of everything, Holgado continues to lead the general classification for the small displacement by managing to overtake Sasaki, who is 26 points behind the Spaniard. For his part, Öncü enters the ‘Top 3’.

Once the lights went out, Holgado took the lead ahead of Öncü and poleman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna), with Colombian David Alonso (GasGas) and Jaume Masià (Honda) soon joining a leading group of five riders , although both would soon fall from the fight

A mechanical problem with 17 laps to go left the man from Algemesí out, and with nine laps to go the ‘coffee grower’, champion of the race at Silverstone, crashed in turn 2 just when he had just taken the lead.

With the podium decided on the finish line, Iván Ortolá (KTM) finished fifth, with David Muñoz (KTM) ninth. Outside the ‘Top 10’ finished José Antonio Rueda (KTM), eleventh; David Salvador (KTM), fifteenth; Xavi Artigas (CFMoto); and Ana Carrasco (KTM), twenty-fifth.

VIETTI FRUSTRATES ACOSTA’S VICTORY

Subsequently, the Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex) perfectly managed the Moto2 race to beat the now leading Pedro Acosta (Kalex), who dominated the test and finished second in a podium completed by the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex).

Despite seeing his victory frustrated, the Murcian widened his distance at the head of the standings, which is now 12 points over the Italian Tony Arbolino (Kalex), sixth this Sunday, with the British Jake Dixon (Kalex) -fourth in Red Bull Ring- third.

The man from Mazarrón, poleman on Saturday, held his privileged position at the start despite Dixon’s pressure; he began to increase his pace while his main rival for the World Cup, Arbolino, fell positions.

Ogura and Vietti tried to get closer and close the gap to one and a half seconds with Acosta with 10 laps to go. A ‘scare’ with the Spaniard’s bike allowed the transalpine to get close enough to overtake him with six laps to go, and no one would dispute the victory with him.

Among the rest of the Spaniards, Sergio García Dols (Kalex) was eighth, just ahead of Fermín Aldeguer (Boscoscuro), Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex) finished twelfth, Izan Guevara (Kalex) thirteenth and Marcos Ramírez (Kalex) fourteenth. Out of the points were Borja Gómez (Kalex) and Alonso López (Boscoscuro), while Albert Arenas (Kalex), Manu González (Kalex) and Arón Canet (Kalex) could not finish due to falls.
