Paula’s greatness

“Whenever I come to Lima I find the good predisposition of the Peruvian Judo Federation, with good food, lodging and happy to have enjoyed the Pan-American judo championship,” said Paula Pareto, who revealed that the Olympic medal obtained in Rio-2016 was product of 20 years of work and postpone his medical studies that culminated in 9 years.

Argentina’s Paula Pareto won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, before the bronze medal in Beijing 2008 and won 3 world medals between 2014 and 2018.

Pareto, when asked about the level of Peruvian judo and having faced some, said that “I see a great evolution. They have grown in terms of infrastructure and the judokas in terms of technique and tactics. They care a lot and that is seen in results and sporting achievements. I have met Peruvian judokas like Brillith Gamarra. The memory I have of Peru is always a very brave and strong judo, going forward, which is what has always characterized me and Peruvian judo has that”.

Yuri Alvear highlights the growth of Peruvian Judo

Colombian Yuri Alvear, bronze medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, silver medalist at Rio 2016, and 3-time world champion left a trail of greatness in the Panam Sports camp and the Pan American Judo Confederation. “I am very happy and grateful to President Carlos Zegarra for taking me into account in inviting me to be part of this type of activity. The truth is that my goal is also to continue contributing to the development of judo in America”.

He highlighted the work of the president of the Pan American Judo Confederation. “Carlos Zegarra’s management, his thinking and the evolution of judo in America is incredible. There is the great initiative of the Mini Prix, which is very important, since there are times when we forget about the lower categories where the new judokas are being formed, who will be the relay for the Juniors, cadets and obviously the older ones”, pointed out Yuri. Alvear.

Regarding the balance of the participation of the Peruvian judokas, the Colombian champion pointed out that “last year I was training with the senior team for the previous Open and I really see that the growth has been incredible. I have to congratulate all the efforts made by the president, Mrs. María Martínez, with this federation. The coaches who are growing, learning, training every day and really the structure that Peruvian judo has, how they have been growing, creating objectives for each of their categories. The growth and advancement of Peruvian judo is very noticeable”.

Yuri Alvear finally, when asked about some Peruvian judoka, said that “she just came back after a stoppage due to injury (Yuliana Bolívar). I have had the opportunity to talk and give him some advice that can help him in his next competitions such as the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games”.
