In the “dream game” in Kaltern (Italy, near Bozen) against a fan club selection, Pavard was conspicuous by his frustration with the change. Although he made it 1-0, there was hardly any cheering. Upon arrival, the Frenchman got off the bus with an emotionless look. During the drinking breaks, he stood apart from the team and only exchanged a few words with Bouna Sarr.
In the 90 minutes, the 2018 world champion downplayed his boots and seemed unmotivated. During the break he was the first to leave the field, came out alone and was the first to leave the dressing room. After being substituted, he only high-fived Goretzka, Kim and Davies. Then he walked past the bank without a word and ran into the dressing room.
Benjamin Pavard’s frustration runs deep. He would have gladly given up the assignment.
The defender is still optimistic that his move will work out. But: Coach Thomas Tuchel (49) would only be willing to give up Pavard if he got a replacement for the right defense.
