Pole vault, Moon and Kennedy share gold at Worlds – Other Sports

Party for two and great sportsmanship in the women’s pole vault final at the World Championships in Budapest. US and Olympic champion Katie Moon and Australian Nina Kennedy shared victory thanks to the rules. In fact, both athletes had exceeded the measure of 4.90 meters with the same number of attempts and decided to stop the race and not compete with a higher measure. Behind them the Finnish Wilma Murto who won the bronze with a jump at 4.80.

The gesture is the same that Gianmarco Tamberi and Musaz Barshim made at the Tokyo Olympics: after a brief consultation with a referee, they decided to end the match with the last measure reached by both up to that moment and thus share the victory.

Moon, 32, won the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Championships under her maiden name Nageotte.
