Raptors Add Depth to Roster with Signing of Garrett Temple

One month to the day after the start of free agency, some franchises continue to recruit to give depth to their roster. This is the case of the Raptors who have just signed the back Garrett Temple. A contract at least veteran which will bring him all the same 3.2 million given his seniority in the big league. Earlier in July, the Pelicans cut Temple before his $5.4 million salary became fully guaranteed. Free to join another team, the 37-year-old veteran is therefore leaving for a fourteenth NBA campaign. Alone LeBron James, Chris Paul et PJ Tucker are older than the no-Raptor.

Appreciated for his presence and leadership in the locker room, Garrett Temple should only have a limited contribution on the court. Over his last two New Orleans seasons, the back has only played 84 games for anecdotal statistics: 4.3 points 37.9% in shooting, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 assisted in 15 minutes of playing time. Toronto will be his twelfth franchise in career. A longevity that says a lot about his off-field contribution. The Canadiens now have 15 players under contract, 14 of which are guaranteed. With Temple’s contract, the Raptors remain 1.9 million below the luxury tax. In addition, the three spots in two-way contracts are already occupied by the leader Markquis Nowellback Javon Freeman-Liberty and the winger Ron Harper Jr.
