RFS Extends Undefeated Streak in Latvian Football Super League

Jānis Ikaunieks scored two goals for Riga, while Darko Lemajičs, Andrejs Iličs and Dragoļubs Savićs scored one each.
The home team took the lead in the 15th minute of the match, when Ikaunieks made a pass from the left side and Lemajičs headed it precisely in front of the goal.

In the continuation, in the 26th minute, Ikaunieks made it 2-0 with an excellent penalty kick, but five minutes later, Ilić further strengthened RFS’s lead from the front of the goal.

In the second half, in the 55th minute, “Super Nova” managed the opponents in the penalty area, which allowed Savic to achieve 4:0. During compensation, in the last seconds of the match, Ikaunieks, after cooperating with Savič, set the final score of the game – 5:0.

RFS has not lost 38 matches in a row in the Super League, which is the longest streak in the Latvian Football Super League this century. Only “Skonto” has had a longer streak of undefeated games in the Latvian Super League, when from 1993 to 1996 the team did not lose 57 games in a row.

RFS experienced their last loss in the Super League on August 7 of last year, when they conceded the superiority of Salaspils “Super Nova” 2:3.

It has already been reported that before that “Valmiera” drew 2:2 at home with “Jelgavu” and did not use the opportunity to return to the third position.

Today, “Riga” hosts “Metta” team at “Skonto” stadium.
On Saturday, “Liepāja” recovered and beat “Daugavpils” 2:1, but “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” overcame a two-goal deficit at home and played 2:2 with “Auda”.

At the head of the tournament table with 64 points in 25 and 26 games are “Riga” and RFS. “Liepāja” has scored 39 points, “Valmiera” has collected 38 points, and “Auda” has 35 points. “Metta” has collected 28 points, “Jelgava” has 26 points, “Daugavpilij” – 25 points, “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” – 24 points, but “Super Nova” team has got eight points.

In the previous season, for the first time in history, the people of Valmiera became the champions, “Riga” won the silver, and “RFS” won the bronze, while “Auda” won the Latvian Cup.

The champion will be determined after 36 rounds played in four rounds. A total of 180 games will be held.

In the 2023 season, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used for the first time in Latvia.
