Rotterdam European Championship 2022: Spanish Paralympic Team Competes in Judo and Goalball

Next Tuesday, August 8, the Rotterdam European Championship will begin, an international event that will bring together 1,500 athletes with disabilities from 45 European countries. A multidisciplinary competition that celebrates its first edition in the Dutch city and in which 10 sports disciplines will be competed.

The Spanish Paralympic team will be represented in all disciplines, and, specifically, nine athletes from the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind (a new window will open) (FEDC) will compete in judo and goalball.

In judo, the Paralympic runner-up in Tokyo 2020, Sergio Ibanezy Daniel Gavilanwho has been having a great season after winning several medals in international competition, two bronzes in the Grand Prix of Egypt and Portugal, and third place in the World Championship held in Baku last November.

As for the female representation, the decorated Martha Arce and the young Maria Manzanero, whose debut year, 2022, reaped two golds at the Egyptian Pyramids International and La Gymnasiada de Normandy. Both seek to obtain the best results for the classification of the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

The judo competition will be from August 8 to 10 and will be important in order to score points in the qualifying rankings for Paris 2024. The first to jump onto the tatami will be Sergio Ibañez, Marta Arce and Daniel Gavilán on August 8, and on August 9 August will do it by María Manzanero.
