Samuel Aldegherileft-handed baseball pitcher, 22 years old on 19 September, from San Martino Buon Albergo, flew to Philadelphia to chase his dream. The dream is called Major League Baseball, i.e. the American professionals, the maximum expression of world baseball.
youth a San Martino Good Hotel in the Junior, with various appearances in the national category. Then the Dynos in Serie B, Tecnovap Verona in A2 and then Parma in A1. The trip to the United States comes in 2019, after finishing his computer science studies in Italy, in Philadelphia to join the Phillies organization, one of the most iconic teams in MLB.
Samuele, from San Martino Buon Albergo in Philadelphia is a big leap.
Yes, it’s a nice life changer, above all. I’m still in the Philadelphia Phillies organization and just moved up through the ranks. At the beginning I was in Florida, in Clearwater, and recently I’m in New Jersey, in Lakewood, where I play with the Jersey Shore Blue Claws in High A. Here in the United States there are six levels before the Mlb called Milb , Minor League Baseball. The more you level up, of course, the higher the difficulty and the competition. The first is the baseball academy in the Dominican Republic, where I didn’t go. The second is the classic Rookie League, then there is Single A which is divided into Low A and High A, Low A are younger and it is, let’s say, a little more “simple”. We then move on to High A, where there are more experienced people. So double AA and triple AAA. At the end of this path, which lasts years, you get to Major League Baseball».
The goal is that, that is to make his debut in the MLB?
Certainly. I have a very specific goal and I have absolutely no intention of stopping. Day after day, training after training, the competition is very high here. When you get to certain levels you shouldn’t back down, let alone be afraid. Each of the guys who are in my same situation tries to reach their goal and are ready to give everything to get there.
From a technical point of view, what are its characteristics?
I’m left-handed and I’m 5’8″ tall. My fastball travels around 93 miles per hour, which is about 150 kilometers per hour. Then there are all the other pitches that every pitcher personalizes with maniacal training over the years. As I said before, you should never get tired of training. Consistency and consistency are key in baseball, especially if you’re a pitcher—all of which lead to pitching accuracy.

Do you miss home?
Obviously life in San Martino Buon Albergo. I must say that I am very happy with the life I lead here, with what I am doing and with the people around me. We grow both from a sporting and human point of view. It’s equally true that making a decision like the one I made in 2019 wasn’t easy. I go on learning day by day, race by race and throw after throw.
How far away is Major League Baseball?
Just over 18 meters and 39 centimeters, the distance from the pitcher’s mound to home plate where the catcher is. I have a set goal. So I answer: yes, I don’t know when, but I am convinced that I will arrive in MLB.
