After the departure of promotion coach Sandro Wagner to the DFB, junior coach Marc Unterberger took over SpVgg Unterhaching. The only problem: The 34-year-old does not have the professional license required for the 3rd division. The DFB has now reacted and punished Hachinger for violating the conditions.
The club has to pay a basic fine of 10,000 euros, plus 3,500 euros for every game that Unterberger oversees. According to the DFB, the sanction only ends when the team is supervised by a responsible head coach who either has the intended pro license or has started the pro license course.
Schwabl: “We accept the penalty”
Manfred Schwabl announced in the BR24Sport interview that he would accept the penalty. “We will not object,” said the president of Hachinger. The amount of the sanctions is also fine for him: “You can always discuss the amount, but it wasn’t surprising either.”
If Unterberger does not start the coaching course during the season, Unterhaching faces a fine of up to 143,000 euros. At the moment it cannot be assumed that the club will want to part with the coach because of this – in the 3rd division the Hachinger got four points from two games, in the DFB Cup they managed the sensation against Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
Schwabl pays the fine out of his own pocket
The application period for the Pro license course 2024 runs until August 27th. Schwabl hopes that Unterberger will be taken. Because the president wants to pay the fine out of his own pocket. “I have built up reserves and my wife does less shopping on Maximilianstrasse. I hope that the payments will end in September.” Otherwise it will be expensive for the President.
Schwabl asked DFB to rethink weeks ago
Before the start of the season, Schwabl expressed his displeasure with the DFB regulations and demanded in the BR24Sport interview that the association should move: “In Germany you should not only develop players, but also young coaches,” said the president. He thinks it’s wrong that they can’t be admitted “because they don’t fulfill something, because they’ve only trained youth teams so far”.
