Sylvain Lemire: Canada’s Official Representative in Japan, the Birthplace of Karate

Chamblyen Sylvain Lemire became Canada’s representative in Japan, the cradle of karate. A position of national ambassador synonymous with great honor in a sport where values are essential.

Sylvain Lemire knows Japan. And for good reason, the Chamblyen has been returning there regularly for twenty years. “I competed in the World Championships in 2003, he recalls. Afterwards, I went there for internships, lessons, competition, refereeing or coaching. »

Today, Japan officially recognized his investment by appointing him as Canada’s representative. “From now on, I represent Canadian karate,” he smiles. This means that I am part of the Order of Karate. If other Canadian schools wish to open, I will have to give my consent. »

A rare recognition that highlights several decades of practice. “I have always done karate. adds Sylvain Lemire. Karate is a childhood dream. I always wanted to do martial arts. My parents signed me up for judo when I was eight and I finally got into karate when I was eleven. Since then, this sport has brought a lot to the child who has now become Sensei 4th dan. “When I was younger, I was shy by nature. Karate inspired me to put aside my shyness and develop a more go-getter spirit. Since then, I have got into the habit of giving conferences and speaking in public. It doesn’t impress me anymore. On the sporting side, this led me to surpass myself. »

Be more of a go-getter

This state of mind also led him to create his school, Karate Chambly, which has about 200 members after more than ten years of existence. “At that time, I completely threw myself into the void,” he says. It was a first school. After a year of existence, we had to move to contain everyone. »

Recently, Sylvain Lemire handed over the black belt to Kim Rémillard and Émyle Tremblay.

“They are the first to pass it in our organization, proudly resumes the Chamblyen. For the occasion, Alain Bonnamie, former professional boxer, was present. »
