The Basketball World Cup continues on its way in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. After a first group phase that left us big surprises, such as the fall of France, and promising teams that are confirmed as serious candidates, such as Canada, the second phase of the championship begins.
In this second phase, the first two classifieds of each group of the first round will come together, forming new groups of four, from which those classified for the quarterfinals will come out. For their part, the last two of each group will also fight each other, since despite not fighting for the title, defining the real positions is important for the distribution of places in the pre-Olympic.
It is worth noting the importance of the victories of the first phase since, in this second round, despite the fact that new groups are formed, the teams that have already faced each other will not do so again. In other words, in the case of Canada and Latvia, classified from group H, and Spain and Brazil, classified from group G, a new group will be formed between the four. The teams from the same group will not face each other again, they will do so with the remaining two and a total of victories from the first and second phase will be added to determine which two advance to the quarterfinals.
Dates of the second round of the 2023 Basketball World Cup
The second phase will be played between August 31 and September 3. On August 31 and September 2, the matches of the teams that were eliminated in the first phase will be played, while on September 1 and 3 the qualified teams will play in search of defining who will go to the quarterfinals.
