According to the NBA site, the LVSL is the joint creation of Warren LeGarie and Albert Hall. The former is an agent for coaches and players, while the latter was a young Seattle SuperSonics employee who worked in the front desk of the team’s new practice facility.
They first pitched the idea of Las Vegas serving as the premier Summer League in the late 1990s to former NBA Commissioner David Stern. The idea prospered and its magnitude grew.
One of the milestones of the Summer League is having been one of the first places where LeBron James shone back in 2023.
There was such a stir because James went straight into the NBA out of high school and was the subject of such hype that his first game was moved from the usual indoor gym where the Summer League operated to the old Orlando Arena, where approximately 13,000 fans paid 5 dollars each to be “first.”
