The Splash Brother’s Tribute: Klay Thompson Reflects on Jordan Poole’s Departure from the Warriors

Invited in Paul George’s podcast, Klay Thompson notably returned to the departure of Jordan Poole for the Wizards. The Splash Brother believes he was a cornerstone of the Dubs project and pays him a nice tribute.

You are aware that Jordan Poole is no longer a Warriors player and has now moved to the American capital, Washington. After some internal tensions – especially with Draymond Green – at the start of last season, the young leader took off away from the three monsters (Curry, Thompson, Green) who had been playing with him for 4 seasons.

After a beautiful tribute from Stephen Curry, it’s Klay Thompson’s turn to talk about Jordan’s case at the microphone of the Paul George Podcast. And the least we can say is that the second Splash Bro also holds JP high in his esteem:

“It hurts to see Jordan go. He was a country boy. I saw him work hard. I saw him go 2 for 15 in a game, but then he was in the dungeon – which we call our training center, because there’s no window – taking shots right after. the game. I was like, ‘This kid is going to be special. Without him, we wouldn’t have won the title in 2021-22. He was so important to us when Stephen Curry was away. It’s like our little brother with Steph”.

Dithyrambic certainly, but Klay explains nevertheless that this transfer was necessary and especially rather easy to accept in terms of finances and global franchise strategy:

“I always say that for me the decision to trade Chris Paul was easy to make. I hated having to give up on Jordan, who has been such a big part of what we’ve done for the past few years, I was there when we signed him. But in terms of basketball and progression, financial flexibility, everything that goes into it, the decision was relatively easy for us to make.”

The Dubs have chosen to experiment with CP3 as reinforcement in the bay. It remains to be seen whether the overall strategy of the franchise will pay off after a disappointing season last season on the side of San Francisco. We also learn that Klay but also (very surely) Steph Curry and Draymond Green are major decision-makers in Golden State’s sports strategy.
