David Bernabeu from the Catalan daily Sport reported that PSG had once again offered to loan Neymar to Barcelona, but the Spanish club did not take up this offer. Reportedly, the return of the Brazilian was blocked by Xavi, who did not fit the 31-year-old’s concept of the team for the new season. Another reason why Barcelona turned down Neymar’s loan offer was the huge salary the player receives at the Paris team.
The 124-time Brazil international joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, leaving FC Barcelona for a record £222m. To date, this is the most expensive transfer in history. Neymar’s current contract with the French team runs until June 30, 2025 and it seems that the winger has no intention of giving up huge amounts of money.
“The player has already made it clear that his intention is to stay in Paris and finish his contract with PSG. His salary makes him one of the highest paid in the world and he does not intend to give it up,” we read in “Sport”. Neymar made 186 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 105 goals and providing 76 assists. Interestingly, in four years at the Camp Nou, the Brazilian played more matches than in six years in France.
Ousmane Dembele, on the other hand, will most likely join the PSG team in a moment. Recently, journalist Matteo Moretto from the Relevo portal reported that Barcelona could earn only 27 million euros on the transfer of the Frenchman, because the player himself triggered the release clause, which significantly affected the final amount of the transaction.
