The Sydney Football Stadium was built on the site of a stadium of the same name, built in 1988. Both had similar attendance capacities. The current one holds up to just over 42,000 people, while the demolished one could hold just over 45,000 fans.

The stadium serves as home to two rugby teams: the Sydney Roosters of the National Rugby League and the New South Wales Waratahs of Super Rugby. In terms of football, Sydney FC is in charge, playing in the first division of the Australian Championship.

For the Women’s World Cup, Sydney Football Stadium will host a total of six matches. Five of them for the group stage and one for the round of 16 of the competition.
