Good news for FC Bayern: Thomas Müller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are back.

Most recently, FCB coach Thomas Tuchel had to do without the two offensive players, Müller was suffering from muscular problems in his left hip flexor, while 34-year-old Choupo-Moting was plagued by knee problems. The duo had recently only done rehabilitation training – as did Raphael Guerreiro (torn calf muscle), the youngsters Tarek Buchmann and Malik Tillman (both in rehabilitation training) and of course Manuel Neuer.
Choupo-Motings and Müller’s failures meant that coach Thomas Tuchel had few options up front during the Asia trip in Tokyo and Singapore and therefore increasingly relied on the talent Mathys Tel, who also recommended himself with decent performances.
Nevertheless, Tuchel should be relieved that he will be given more alternatives again, because there was “good news”, as FC Bayern reported: Both Müller and Choupo-Moting completed parts of the team training on Wednesday afternoon. “At the beginning of the session, both were greeted with cheers and applause from their teammates,” the statement said.
Need for discussion at Müller
But it would certainly be too early for the duo to play against RB Leipzig in the Supercup on Saturday (LIVE! from 8.45 p.m. on kicker). In Munich, it is certainly important that both players make a full recovery.
At Müller, whose contract expires in June 2024, talks are also to be held in the autumn about his sporting future. Müller has played for Munich since he was young, made his professional debut in 2008/09 and can now look back on a whopping 442 Bundesliga games (144 goals) for FCB, plus 142 Champions League games (53) and 64 appearances in the DFB Cup (33).
It is now unclear how many more will come, because: It cannot be ruled out at the moment that the 2014 World Champion will go into his last season at Bayern Munich.
