University of Bologna dominates European University Championships with Three Gold Medals and One Bronze

Three gold medals and one bronze: Europe’s campaignUniversity of Bolognaon the occasion of the European University Championships (Eusa) it closed excellently. Between Braga and Averio (in Portugal) and Zagreb (in Croatia), the Alma Mater Studiorum proves to have no rivals among the universities of the Old Continent. Both in team sports (basketball and volleyball) and in individual ones (judo and taekwondo at their debut). The result of a great commitment and planning that starts from afar.

Expresses great satisfaction the Magnificent Rector John Molari. “As always, I followed cwith great emotion and intense cheering the competitions of our talented athletes. I personally complimented them after the exceptional results they achieved: for example, I heard from the volleyball team while I was returning from Milan with Patrick Zaki. The entire Alma Mater must be proud of these successes, which are the result of an extraordinary commitment and dedication. Let’s not forget that these magnificent sportsmen are also students of exceptional quality. I greeted them with affection on their departure and I look forward to welcoming them back to the Rectorate: we will have a big party together in September”.

Thus the rector, Giovanni Molari, will be able to receive the gift the gold (the third in a row) of women’s volleyball who, in the last two years, has not lost a single set. Men’s basketball gold (perhaps among the most eagerly awaited, after last year’s ninth place) demonstrated once again the very high level reached by Bologna, since it is of the fourth triumph in the last five editions. The gold of Betty Vuk (fresh graduate) in judo in Zagreb. AND the historic bronze that the basketball girls put around their necks, which thus improve the fourth place of the past participation. The applause is also deserved for taekwondo boys who, after this first experience, are ready to give new satisfactions to the University of Bologna.

Programming, planning and dual careerthe path that allows high-level athletes of the University of Bologna to achieve student-athlete status, reconciling a competitive sports career with quality academic training, thanks to a series of benefits both in terms of teaching such as flexibility of exam dates, and benefits such as free accommodation for short periods in Ergo residences, an academic and student tutor in support, and others. These are the essential components to achieve these goals, as demonstrated by Betty Vuk of judo and Valerio Cucci, captain of the basketball team, who are “fresh” from their degree. In addition to commitment and planning, a great sense of belonging accompanies Cusb athletes: why the coaches and members of the technical staff of the University they are the same ones who played in the red and white shirt up until a few years ago and who now contribute to spreading the reputation, principles and values of the University of Bologna.

Satisfied the president of Cus Bologna, Peter Pagni. “I would say that these results – underlines Pagni – are above all the result the talent and commitment of our student-athletes. Secondly, we reap the benefits of the policies aimed at sport and correct lifestyles put in the foreground by the University of Bologna. I conclude with a big thank you to our managers and technicians for the excellent work they have done”.

Tuned to the same frequencies the general manager of Cus Bologna, Federico Panieri. “As general manager and as sporting director – explains Panieri – I can only say that these results were obtained through a system that integrates professionalism and coordinates resources of all kinds, even economic, important. The whole journey begins long before the championship, which is only the final act. Very satisfied to have made the right choices, even professionally. Not just in terms of players. And to have been able to better manage all the variables that have intervened along the way. Which means coping and solving the problems that arise. Personally, in addition to thanking the University and Cus who have put us in a position to work in the best possible way, I would like to mention a first-rate staff. Good, good. To all staff and at all levels. My thanks go to all”.
