Uznik takes fifth place in bouldering

Carinthian Nicolai Uznik took fifth place in bouldering at the Climbing World Championships in Bern. The 22-year-old from Carinthia had just qualified for the decision on Friday, coming sixth in the semi-finals, and was able to improve in the final. The current European champion only managed two zones on the first three boulders, rather he was the only one to reach the top on the final fourth. Jakob Schubert failed in the semifinals and finished twelfth.

The Frenchman Mickael Mawem surprisingly won the World Cup gold. The 33-year-old veteran managed three tops and won ahead of his 19-year-old compatriot Mejdi Schalck and 20-year-old South Korean Lee Dohyun.

Schubert, on the other hand, missed the final, but was able to cope well with the end. Maybe it’s even better for the lead climber and the station wagon, so he can protect his skin and prepare himself even better. Since the steep boulders weren’t the most difficult, it came down to the technical aspects. “You can definitely screw things up a lot better,” said the 32-year-old from Innsbruck and was optimistic about the other tasks: “Hopefully I’ll fight for the medals in the lead climb, including gold.”
