Novak Djokovic serves for the first time since Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic returns to the ATP Tour in Cincinnati. And he will do so after a bye against either Tomas Martin Etcheverry or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Spaniard is currently still employed in Toronto so won’t be traveling to Cincinnati particularly fresh. Djokovic is seeded second in the last major event before the US Open. And could meet Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. However, he still has work to do in Canada.

The tableau is led by Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard opens against either John Isner or a qualifier. A befitting quarter-final opponent would be Casper Ruud, against whom Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows almost a year ago.

Zverev on a collision course with Medvedev

It starts off quite challenging for Alexander Zverev. The German number one has to go against Grigor Dimitrov, who has already won the title in Cincinnati (like Zverev, by the way). Zverev could meet Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16, against whom he has already lost three matches this year. In the head-to-head with Dimitrov, Zverev leads 4-1.

Already the first round brings some really exciting pairings: Gael Monfils plays against Cameron Norrie. And Félix Auger-Aliassime has to deal with Matteo Berrettini.

This is how the quarter-finals look like according to the seed list:

Carlos Alcaraz (ESP/1)Casper Ruud (NOR/5)Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE/4)Andrey Rublev (RUS/7)Daniil Medvedev (RUS/3)Holger Rune (DEN/6)Novak Djokovic (SRB/2)Jannik Anger (ITA/8)
