Japan was satisfied with the minimum by having with the offensive bonus of Chile (42-12), which played the first match in its history in the World Cup.
Pablo Lemoine (Chile coach, after the defeat against Japan 42-12 on Sunday in Toulouse): “It is a historic day for Chile, but also for rugby which welcomes a new member to its family. We played a good quality match, with intensity. We had more difficulty in the last twenty minutes because we lost control by giving them the ball. The strategy was not to give them the ball back so as not to expose themselves too much. It worked for almost sixty minutes, but we had a very good team in front of us. I am very proud of my players. I know where they come from and the efforts they have made to get here. They were exemplary.»
Martin Sigren (Captain of Chile): “We can be proud of our match. We struggled to finish the match, but we need to play more matches like this to improve. The two yellow cards had a direct impact, as we took points straight away. Playing with 14 for 20 minutes was detrimental to us at the end of the match. One of our responsibilities is to grow rugby in Chile. It wasn’t easy to qualify, but we will have to do it as often as possible to continue to progress.»
