On Friday at 6:30 a.m. (CET), i.e. at 12:30 p.m. local time, Sinner will play his first round match at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The 22-year-old is ranked number 6 in the Chinese capital. The start is against the Brit Daniel Evans (ATP 27). Sinner has never played against the 33-year-old. Evans will be testing the South Tyrolean’s form straight away, as Sinner hasn’t played a game since the beginning of September.
Although the man from Sexten has recovered from his physical injuries, he has become ill in the last few days. “When I got here, I got sick. But it’s getting better. “Hopefully I’ll be at 100 percent in my first match,” explained Sinner at the final PK on Thursday. Nevertheless, Sinner is looking forward to the tournament in China: “I’m happy to be here. This is my first time in China. It’s a new experience for me. I didn’t have the chance in 2019. Then came Corona. I’m finally here now.”
“It’s a new experience for me.” Jannik Sinner, who is playing in Asia for the first time
The ATP tour is coming to Asia for the first time in four years. Sinner has never played here. Should he overcome the first hurdle in Beijing, he would meet the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (ATP 46) or the Chinese Juncheng Shang (ATP 156) in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals there could be a duel with the world number 4. Holger Rune come.
The big players there
In addition to Rune and Sinner, Carlos Alaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev will also be playing in Beijing. A top-class tournament, in which Sinner could, in the best case scenario, even get his ticket to the ATP finals in Turin.
