The humid heat and bustling vibes of Atlanta are ingrained in Anthony Edwards. From his years as a top recruit at Holy Spirit Prep to his SEC Freshman of the Year honors at the University of Georgia, it was only fitting that Adidas unveiled Ant’s inaugural silhouette -Man in the world in his hometown.
Following a first look at a sample version of the silhouette in early May, the adidas AE1 was officially revealed during Edward’s Homecoming Celebration at the Tracy Watt Recreation Center in ATL. Much like his game in transition, Edward’s early signature echoes a blurred cohesion of speed and fluidity. Exploring a soft knit base layer and split tongue construction, the AE1 features a precision-fused parametric TPU overlay that helps contain Edward’s multi-directional movements while providing airy breathability. Adhering to the basic function of the BYW Select – which Edward particularly appreciated last season – the AE1 follows suit in the brand’s premium on-court offerings, with a BOOST cushioning system underfoot and herringbone directional blades across the entire tread.
Positioned as the new face of Adidas Basketball, Edwards has worn the 3 stripes since signing an endorsement deal with the brand just a few games into his rookie campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After leading the United States National Team this summer at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and receiving his first All-Star bid, Edward’s charismatic enthusiasm coupled with his do-it-all nature on the court marks a new chapter in the rich history of Adidas Basketball.
The adidas AE1 is expected to release this upcoming holiday season. In the meantime, take a closer look at the pair ahead.
