After a fanfare end to the season culminated in a move up to Nationale 2, the badminton players from the Alençonnais Badminton Club will return to the courts, Saturday September 9, 2023, with a trip to Rostrenen (Côtes-d’Armor). The first of ten days of the championship, which will run from September to April.

A “homogeneous” chicken

Now on the upper level, the Ornais graduates have only one idea in mind: not to finish last in order to maintain their position. “We have our chances. And if we can perform and annoy certain teams, we won’t get in the way,” warns Yann Lemesle, club captain.

In their group, CAB 61 will face Carquefou, Le Cellier-Ligné and, above all, three reserve teams: Guichen, Cholet and Rostrenen, their first opponent.

“As they are reserves, with first teams in Top 12 or N1, we do not yet know the players we will meet. We will have more visibility in the second part of the season,” believes the captain, who prefers this “homogeneous” pool to that of the north that the CAB could also have inherited.

For Yann Lemesle, it was “essential” to “strengthen ourselves” in view of the upcoming year. “Our team 2 is also up, in N3. We want to have two successful teams. »

Four transferees have joined the Alençon ranks: Tanguy Barbelette, Martin Brucker, Julianne Gérard and Cédric Le Jean. Enough to form a strong group of national level players and fill the absence of Théo Gallou, actor in the rise to N2, who left for Canada until the beginning of January. Hugo Hanecart, convalescing since his serious injury in October 2021, says “taking a break”.

Play the climb within two or three years

In the short term, the objective of CAB 61 is therefore to “stay” at this level. Before thinking bigger?

We plan to access the N1. But we must already stabilize in N2 because the level of competition is very different from that of N3. We would like to try to play in the play-offs within two or three years.

For team 2, in N3, the captain has little to worry about. “They shouldn’t have any problems maintaining themselves. They will aim for the first places. »

First day: BC Rostrenen – CAB 61, Saturday September 9, at 2 p.m.
