Andy Murray Suffers Heartbreaking Loss to Alex De Minaur in First Round of ATP 500 in Beijing

Andy Murray went through all the emotions this Thursday, in the first round of the ATP 500 in Beijing.

Opposed to Alex De Minaur, whom he had never beaten in four confrontations, the Briton, largely dominated at first before leading 5–2 in the final set with three match points, finally lost a fifth time against the tireless Australian: 3–6, 7–5, 6–7(6), after 2h55 of play.

Yet coming back to level with his opponent in the decisive game while he was dominated 5 points to 2, the former world number 1, on the verge of the penalty point after having already obtained a warning by throwing his racket to the ground several times, ended up breaking down in a match with an incredible scenario.

A defeat which risks hurting Andy’s morale, he who recently declared that he had difficulty digesting certain defeats this season such as the one against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of Wimbledon.

For De Minaur, on the contrary, it is an ideal success to launch his tournament as he will face Daniil Medvedev or Tommy Paul in the round of 16.
