Antonio Tartaglia: “From every defeat you always learn something new”
VAST. Sports humanism, technological evolution and attention to the person, social inclusion and sustainable development, these were the issues addressed in the meeting entitled “Sport and the common good: an educational challenge”.
The event was held yesterday afternoon in the premises of the Parish of San Marco Evangelista which saw the participation of important exponents from the world of sport and beyond.
In fact there were several personalities who took part in the meeting moderated by Paolo Del Viscio, from olympic champion originally from Casalbordino Antonio Tartaglia to the national councilor of the Italian Sports Centre, Angelo De Marcellusto reach the Master Aniello Vastolaformer judoka and founder of the Vasto Judo Club.
“This is a meeting in which apparently different themes emerge, but which in reality are united. These all want to promote the achievement of social welfare made up of values such as ethics, respect for people and the environment that surrounds us”, declared the councilor for Youth Policies of the city of Vasto, Paula Ciancito which he then added: “Sport is team playrespect for the adversary and development for the younger ones in living and being together”.
“Does the sport we produce have human growth? We have to ask ourselves this.” so he began Angelo De Marcellus
“This is because it is held as one concrete tool for the general common good. Unfortunately Today – continued De Marcellis – there is no more team, there is no more group, because you just want to pursue a goal on your own where you either win or lose”.
“So there is a need for a sports humanism– said the councilor of the Csi- i.e. the need to bring the man back to the center of a cultural and social renaissance. Where there is collective and community development, sport then becomes educational and aspires to humanism”.
Then it was time for Maestro Aniello Vastola who recalled some of the values present in particular sports disciplines: “Il Judo it is the sport of kindness, for example we start right away by bowing respecting the opponent and as we are so trained in this sport, we also try to be kind in life”.
“You lose, you win, you fall and you get back up like in judo – then continued the master on the importance of sport – where to be precise it is said that “you fall seven times and get back up eight”. That’s life which leads you to win, but also to know how to lose and this is what makes you a champion”.
“Sport is fundamental, it represents a moment of growth for the Boysbut also for adults because in my opinion done in a certain way it gives a criterion for living in a different way, with many rules which, as in the game, are also important in life”he has declared Antonio Tartaglia, the former bobsledder who took part in four Olympic Games winter and among the various trophies he won one gold medal in Nagano in ’98, a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships and two gold medals at the European Championships.
“I really like being in close contact with the athletes and the kids because – continued the former athlete and currently a massage therapist – I want to give them positive growth experiences, but also negative ones that I define as formative. From every defeat you learn always something new”.
“I hope there is a return – he concluded – to environments in which young people try to understand each other and grow together with important values that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives”.
