The Arjonilla Badminton Club beats Alicante Intercity at home by 4 to 3 on the first day of the league.

Last Saturday, the Juan Antonio Cuesta Municipal Pavilion hosted the first day of the Iberdrola Badminton Top 10 (Saturday 23, 6:00 p.m.) in which the arjonilleros faced Alicante Intercity. Arjonilla recovered quickly, winning both gender doubles matches. In the women’s team, Carmen Lara and Fátima Albín came back from two games to beat Helena Sánchez and Ana Ramírez (10-11 10-11 11-8 11-8 11-7) in what was the longest match of the duel. In the men’s category, Joan Monroy and Ernesto Baschwitz had a more comfortable victory against José Luís Martín and Miguel Esteve (11-6, 11-7 and 11-7).

With 2 to 1 the first individual matches began. In the women’s team, Laura Thomsen made her debut for Arjonilla and did so by beating Inés Costero (11-4, 11-5 and 11-7). The men’s match was another of the matches that was decided in the fifth game, which the visiting team ended up winning. With the victory of the match in the bag, the individual between Ernesto Baschwitz del Arjonilla and Miguel Esteve was still in play. The fifth game was the one in charge of passing the sentence, giving the victory to the Alicante player (7-11 11-6 11-9 6-11 6-11).

Final result of 4 to 3 that makes the Arjonilla Badminton Club add its first three points at home. Antonio Pons, at the end of the match, highlighted that “in general the team has competed well. We knew it would be an even match and we were not wrong. Starting with a win at home, despite being a close result, always gives confidence in facing the next matches.” Carmen Lara, who returned to the Honor Division after three years, stated: “We didn’t start the match as we would have liked, but we were finally able to win. My teammates gave everything and that gives us confidence for the next matches. “I am very happy with our women’s doubles match where we were able to turn the score around and finish with a good feeling.”

The Arjonilla Badminton Club will have its next match in Granada against Granada Torres on Saturday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m.
