EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Baby Valdez and Pichulo Teams were proclaimed champions of the “Baby Baseball Tournament 2023” tournament, organized by the Dominican Prospects Kids (DPK) program at the La Javilla Academy facilities, by beating 11- 2 to the representative of Enrique Cruz, in a match corresponding to the categories 5-6 and 7-8 years, respectively.
The selected Baby Valdez defeated the Baby Luigi team 16-13, thanks to the offensive contribution of infante Juan Galván, who batted 3-for-3, including two doubles, four RBIs and one run scored.
Raylin Enríquez, Carlos Javine, Tiago Almonte and Ángelo Álvarez were also vital in obtaining the trophy, each connecting three hits.
For the defeated stood out Jhon Carmona Jr., who fired two hits and drove in three runs, while Oscar Santana and Alonzo Arache drove two each.
Meanwhile, the Pichulo Team claimed the title by beating the Enrique Cruz league 11-2.
Adiel Castillo led the winners’ attack by firing a home run and drove in three runs. David Hernández was key for the champions by producing two laps and scoring a run.
Aaron Hidalgo pushed in one of the two runs scored by Enrique Cruz’s little ones.
22 teams participated in the tournament, including Mario DPK, Paredes Baseball League, EGL Academy, Tortuga DPK, Valdez Academy, Liga Las Américas, Club Mendoza, Dragón DPK, Los Robles Academy, Baby Luigi, Quezada Sports League, Pichulo Team, Liga Los Girasoles, the Nelson Rigo League, the Enrique Cruz League and Alexis Carmona de Baní, among others, who competed in the 5-6 and 7-8 year old categories, respectively.
The children’s fair was dedicated to former Venezuelan catcher Robinson Chirinos, who played in the Major Leagues with the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros for 11 seasons.
The “Baby Baseball Tournament” is part of a conglomerate of events that the DPK celebrates annually at different ages, including the DPK District, DPK Revolution, City Champs, The Show, Plátano Power, Survivor Tournament, Diamond Class, among others.
