Utemuratov continues his position in the ITF
The elections for the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) were held in Cancún (Mexico). Under the auspices of an electoral commission, voting was carried out by secret ballot among eligible ITF members. Bulat Utemuratov, president of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federationwas re-elected member of the Board of Advisors for a new term.
For the past four years, Bulat Utemuratov has helped pay special attention to the transparency issues within the organization. He focused on issues such as increasing organizational effectiveness by introducing necessary changes in governance. In addition, such as the separation of roles between President and CEO, in line with best practical corporate practices.
As vice president of the ITF, Bulat Utemuratov also tworked to promote children’s tennis. Especially in the categories under 12 years old, by holding various regional team competitions. This age is essential for children’s development because they need an international tournament, but most young players do not have enough resources to travel. However, to address the problem, five of the world’s most needy regions received support: Oceania, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia. Bulat Utemuratov provided more than $3 million in additional funding to help organize regional championship teamin which more than 1,000 children from the five regions participated.
Just a few days ago Utemuratov was at the US Open and experienced firsthand that history of Danilina winning the mixed doubles title.
Utemuratov’s views on the development of tennis
“I think the tennis community should come together as much as possible to make the enormous potential of our sport, which is among the top three in terms of audience, but barely among the top 10 in terms of financial income. We need to do everything possible to realize our opportunities, deliver significantly more resources to build new courts and facilities, prepare tournaments and finance talented players in all corners of the world.”. These were the words of Bulat Utemuratov after his re-election to the ITF Board of Advisors was announced.
