China’s Proud Sports Heroes Shine at Spectacular Conclusion of Asian Games in Hangzhou

As the Asian Games held in China for the first time in 13 years came to a spectacular conclusion, China’s proud sports heroes came out to raise the atmosphere, including Pan Zhendong in table tennis and Xu Haifeng, who carried the OCA flag, for the torch relay.

The torch relay at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou, China on the 23rd began with the appearance of female swimmer Yes One.

Yes One is an athlete who won two gold medals in the women’s individual medley (200m, 400m) at the 2012 London Olympics.

Yes One, who slowly ran through the stadium waving his hand, gave table tennis player Pan Zhendong a high five and then handed him a light.

Fan Zhendong, the gold medalist in the men’s team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is currently ranked No. 1 in the world in men’s singles, and is also considered one of the best players of all time in ‘Great Wall’ Chinese table tennis.

Following in the footsteps of Fan Zhendong, who carried the torch with a brisk step, Xu Mengtao won the women’s freestyle skiing aerial event at the Beijing Winter Olympics held in his country last year, and won gold in the men’s 69kg weightlifting class at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 73kg class gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Shi Zhiyong, who had a lantern around his neck, exchanged fire in turn.

Next, Li Lingwei, winner of the Badminton World Championships and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Wang Shun, gold medalist in the men’s 200m individual medley swimming at the Tokyo Olympics, lit the cauldron with the ‘digital ignitor’.

Eight people participated in transporting the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) flag.

Zhang Rongfang, a volleyball gold medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics who led China’s rise to the top at the World Championships (1982) and the Olympics in the 1980s, took the lead with Sun Haiping, a famous track and field leader.

Xu Haifeng, who won China’s first ever Summer Olympics gold medal in the 50m pistol shooting event at the LA Olympics, and Ye Chaobo, China’s first Winter Olympics medalist, won silver medals in the women’s 500m and 1,000m speed skating at the 1992 Albertville Games.

Lou Yun, the men’s artistic gymnastics vault gold medalist at the 1984 LA and 1988 Seoul Olympics, and Guo Jingjing, who holds four gold medals in diving at the Olympics and has won five consecutive world championships, also entered to loud cheers.

Zhong Man, China’s first Olympic fencing gold medalist who won the men’s saber individual event in Beijing in 2008, and Luo Xuejuan, a gold medalist in the women’s 100m breaststroke swimming at the 2004 Athens Olympics and a public relations ambassador for the hosting of this Games, also participated.
