China’s Zhizhen Zhang Takes Gold in Men’s Singles at Asian Games

Zhizhen Zhang won gold in men’s singles at the Asian Games in China.

Won the gold medal in the final of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, eastern China. In the final, the Chinese, who is in position 60 in the ATP ranking, beat the Japanese Yosuke Watanuki (ATP ranking 77) 6:4, 7:6(7). For the top-seeded Zhang, the victory is the biggest career success to date.

As with the men, there was also a final for the women with the two top seeded players in the draw. Qinwen Zheng (WTA ranking 23) also prevailed in two sets in the Chinese duel against Lin Zhu (WTA ranking 33) 6:2, 6:4.

Taiwan with gold in doubles competitions

In the doubles, gold went to the duo from Taiwan. In the women’s category, Latisha Chan and Hao-Ching-Chang were crowned the winners. Successful for men Jason Jung and Yu-hsiou Hsu. The Asian Games in Hangzhou were originally scheduled to take place in summer 2022, but were postponed to fall 2023 due to pandemic restrictions in China
