Dominican super prospect Jasson Domínguez saw his first stay in Major League Baseball (MLB) abruptly end after suffering an elbow injury that the New York Yankees are still analyzing how to handle, although the possibility of Tommy John surgery is latent.

Manager Aaron Boone confirmed Sunday afternoon that “The Martian” had a torn ulnar collateral ligament. There is no surgery scheduled yet.

In the case of position players who undergo the procedure, they are more likely to be active in official games after six months of rehabilitation, unlike pitchers who regularly have a recovery period of 12-14 months.

But the Yankees could skip the surgery option and put their top prospect through a nine- to 10-month rehab, leaving Dominguez in position to return before the All-Star break.

Through eight games in the Major Leagues, Domínguez was 8 for 31 with four home runs and a double. He debuted on September 1 and hit the first home run of his career off Justin Verlander in just his first at-bat.
