Excitement Builds as Olympic and Paralympic Games in Florence Approach Final Weekend

At the dawn of the penultimate weekend of events for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of the Metropolitan City of Florence, the time has come for medals in volleyball too: at the Luciano Turrini geodesic gym in Sorgane the Under 16 women’s teams from EuroRipoli Volley, CS San Michele Firenze Volley and Liberi e Forti 1914 ASD. In the first match, Euroripoli won against San Michele 2-1 (partial scores 25-18 21-25 25-18), in the second Liberi e Forti achieved a clear success again against San Michele 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25 -17). This led to the final, a hard-fought match which saw Euroripoli triumph in a comeback against CS San Michele 2-1 (24-26, 25-17, 26-24), Euroripoli thus winning the gold medal.

Previously the bowls medals had also been awarded, at the Affrico facilities at the Campo di Marte with also the Dir athletes. In the individual ranking first Fabio Focardi, on the podium Matteo Marconcini and Adolfo Cheli all from the Don Orione Florence Institute.

As regards the pairs classification, however, victory went to Gabriele Costanza of CSE Il Totem together with Fabio Focardi of Don Orione ahead of Matteo Marconcini and Adolfo Cheli in the first race; in the second success for Sara Ibrahim and Roberta Turchi of Totem with silver for Sandro Rovai and Maurizio Caramiello of Don Orione. Athletes from the Istrice and La Palma – Scandicci Centers also participated in the races.

On the weekend between Saturday 30th and Sunday 1st October, there will be many other “meats in the fire”. Starting from Saturday, in the afternoon at Padovani the rugby final; the archery medals are awarded in Mantignano, while in the evening the decisive sports dance competitions are held at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Calenzano.

On Sunday 1 October, in the afternoon at the Bellariva swimming pool in Florence, the water polo finals for the able-bodied and those for the disabled with water polo ability. The handball finals will instead be held in Borgo San Lorenzo starting at 4pm at the Palasport Gaddo Cipriani.

On Saturday, connected to the Olympics but without medals being awarded, there will also be the Nordic walking Open Day event, a great opportunity for children and adults who have booked which takes place within the vast and evocative Medici Park of Pratolino.

Furthermore, the three days of the Sport Village at the Cascine also ended on Friday with thousands of students who took turns over the three mornings to try the various sports disciplines that the organization coordinated by Uisp Florence put in place.

Other events will also continue during the next week in a crescendo of interest towards the final day of Saturday 7 October which will end with the cyclocross race at the Mugello International Autodrome in Scarperia, then the closing ceremony of the Games.
