In 2022, the ancient Grestain Abbey, in Fatouville-Grestain (Eure), hosted the first edition of its medieval festivals. Given the success of this event, it is being renewed for a second edition this Saturday September 9 and 10, 2023 in this place founded around 1050 by Herluin de Conteville, husband of Arlette, the mother of William the Conqueror!

Go back in time in a historic place

Historical reconstruction companies will invite you to discover daily civilian life (medieval cuisine, tapestry, calligraphy and illumination, coin making, etc.) and military life (presentation of pieces of armor, weapons and professions: men-at-arms, archers, crossbowmen, military musicians). The public will be able to explore the different camps and learn about ancient know-how (stone cutter and leatherworker) as well as try their hand at it.

It will be possible to attend demonstrations, learn archery and handling weapons, and try béhourd, a combat sport involving the use of weapons and armor from the Middle Ages. Wooden games will be available to play with the family, and a construction workshop will allow you to practice your building skills.

Medieval musicians will add a touch of sound to this medieval atmosphere.

Various traders and artisans will exhibit on site. The medieval-inspired stalls will offer authentic, historical and artisanal products to immerse yourself in the Middle Ages and live an experience beyond time.

Hours: Saturday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking at 219, route de l’Estuaire in Fatouville-Grestain. Catering on site. FREE ENTRANCE. Anticipate your purchases in cash (CB network difficult on site – no ATM nearby). Information on 02 31 89 23 30 / [email protected] or on the website www.ot-honfleur.fr
