FIS Games 2028 is not an issue for ÖSV as host

Austria’s Ski Association (ÖSV) is not interested in hosting the premiere of the FIS Games, which is scheduled for 2028. “This is not an issue for the ÖSV. You need a place that plays all the pieces. I don’t see that for us,” said association president Roswitha Stadlober to the APA.

The FIS Games are intended to cover the entire range of snow sports and last 16 days in years when there are no Olympic Games or World Championships. “I see it as ambivalent,” said Stadlober about the idea pushed by FIS boss Johan Eliasch, “because it makes the topic of major events inflationary.” Apart from St. Moritz with the Engadine, no one is known to be interested in the major event.

The local ski association is already busy preparing and carrying out major events. The World Championships will be opened next January by the Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm, followed by the 2025 Ski World Championships in Saalbach and the 2027 World Championships for snowboard, freestyle and freeskiing on Montafon. “We also want to apply for a Biathlon World Cup. 2028 will be the 50th World Cup anniversary in Hochfilzen. If we don’t succeed in 2028, then we’ll try 2029,” explained Stadlober.
