Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams is on the verge of life and death after an accident at a construction site.

On Wednesday, TMZ learned that the former NFL player was on life support in a Florida hospital. The 36-year-old suffered a serious head injury, according to a GoFundMe page started by his father.

TMZ initially announced Williams’ death, but Tierney Lyle, Williams’ ex-spouse, denied the news. She specified that he was mostly unconscious.

“He was asleep when we went to see him. He woke up when he heard our voices and that of his daughter, said Mrs Lyle. He looked at us and blinked. He was crying and he couldn’t move.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2010 draft by the Bucs, Williams had a fantastic first season in the NFL. He caught 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had two more good seasons, but was unable to keep up the pace after that.

The man who briefly played for the Buffalo Bills in 2014 put his hands on 223 balls for 3,089 yards and 26 majors in 63 career games.
