Fostering Group Spirit and Integration: Gaston-Bonheur College’s Cohesion Days for 6th Grade Students

The 50 6th C and D students were the first to participate in the cohesion day organized by the Gaston-Bonheur college, Tuesday September 19. This Friday the 22nd, it was the turn of the 50 students from 6th A and 6th B. The transition to 6th grade is always stressful for the students. Hence the college’s idea of ​​organizing cohesion days.

Corina Santomaggio, the principal, knows this: “In middle school, the integration of young students can be difficult. In 6th grade, there are more teachers, larger establishments and students from different schools who do not know each other.” Head to Lac de la Cavayère to create a spirit of solidarity.

On the program, rotations of 4 groups of 12 students over 4 workshops.

Three sports workshops: run and bike; Mountain biking + running; archery + orienteering and a workshop on citizenship and living together. “Enough to forge a group spirit within the classes,” explains Guillaume Isabal, spokesperson for the college’s PE team.

The sports workshops were supervised and led by sports educators from the department (CD 11 sports and outdoor service), PE teachers and head teachers of 6th grade classes.

School life was responsible for the citizenship workshop: Amandine Pancher (CPE), Djeson Morier (AED) and Virginie Devaux (visual arts teacher).

Objectives achieved

The middle school students worked on group cohesion within the class and got to know each other better to facilitate everyone’s integration. Communication between students in the class and those in another class took place. Fair play, mutual aid, a taste for effort, involvement in a collective, sporting or educational project were essential. Promote the development of solidarity, respect and tolerance; exchanging with teachers and school life in an out-of-class context were implemented.

“Everything went well, the feedback from the students was positive at the end of the day. Middle school students delighted to share moments with their classmates, lots of exchanges and cooperation in a good mood,” concluded Guillaume Isabal.
