France begins its European campaign in Poitiers

On November 9, the French women’s team will begin their qualification for Euro 2025 in Poitiers. Les Bleues find themselves in the same group as Latvia, Israel and Ireland.

Bronze medalists last June at Euro 2023 in Slovenia, the Blues already have their heads turned towards the next European competition. On September 19, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) carried out the draws for qualifying for Euro 2025, which will be played in four countries: Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic and Germany.

“Getting started in the best possible way”

The French team is placed in group E, with Latvia (13th in Euro 2023), Israel (16th in the last Euro) and Ireland (not qualified for the last European competition). An affordable group for Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists. Even if, for the French coach, it will be important to get his qualifications off to a good start. “The first two matches next November will be very important to get us off to a good start, with two victories that we will absolutely have to get”, ambitions Jean-Aimé Toupane. As a reminder, the teams ranked first in each group as well as the four best second-placed teams will qualify.

For their first match, the Blues will play at home against Latvia on November 9 at the Arena Futuroscope in Poitiers, in Vienne. Inaugurated at the end of 2022, this new hall can accommodate 4,500 spectators. The tricolors will then head to Ireland, which they will face three days later, on November 12. “We will play against a relatively unknown team, which France has not faced for 37 years”, indicates the coach.
