French Gymnast Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos Wins Gold at French Open in Paris

Frenchwoman Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos won the gold medal in the uneven bars competition on Sunday September 17 at the French Open in Paris. With a score of 14.700, the 23-year-old Frenchwoman beat the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade (14.600), reigning world champion in the all-around, and the Algerian Kaylia Nemour (14.100).

Mélanie “DJDS” will have another chance at a medal a little later in the afternoon during the floor final, which she enters with the best score of the qualifications.

Among the other French people, Coline Devillard, reigning European vault champion, took the bronze medal for her favorite apparatus, while Benjamin Osberger won silver on floor. For his big comeback after a long biceps injury, Samir Aït Saïd finished fourth in the rings final.

The French Open is a rehearsal for the World Championships scheduled in two weeks in Antwerp (September 30 to October 8). The Worlds are all the more important as they will mark the main qualifying stage for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
