Italy Dominates Hungary with a 15-2 Victory in the XXVII European Championship

Italy beat 15-2 in 7 rounds a Hungarian team that was too foul in defense (4 errors at the end) and inexperienced to be able to worry the Azzurri, who collected 13 hits, including 5 doubles. He completes a big inning of 8 points which secures the first Italian victory in the XXVII European Championship in the Czech Republic.

The Azzurri play their debut match of the European Championship againstHungaryon the Trebic Nuclears field, with mourning on his arm for the passing of the President Emeritus of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

The blue lineup sees the addition, as designated hitter, of Vito Friscia, who joined the team a few hours earlier, but Alberto Mineo is not there, left to rest due to a muscle problem; he then crouches behind the plate Giulio Monello.

There is on the mountain Matteo Bocchifacing a Hungarian team that is on average very young, for a team that reaches continental Pool A for the first time and gets nothing from the throws of the Parmaclima starter in the first third of the match.

Against Sean Blackthe Italian selection instead immediately finds the right pace: Nathanael Batista e Ricardo Paolini they inaugurate the first attack with a single and a double in a row, which are worth the first score. With 2 out and the base in Friscia, the Hungarian third baseman Chacin makes a throwing error on Astorri’s serve which brings in both runners, while the same Italian first baseman goes on to make it 4-0 thanks to the double by Sebastiano Poma.

Italy fills the bags in the second half, without moving the scoreboard, despite the opening double Mattia Mercuri.

In the third inning, on the new pitcher Tibor Bagyinszki. one of the few veterans of Piros Szabolcs’ team, after Astorri’s base and steal, Poma concedes an encore, with a double along the right foul line and the blue team also replicates the previous situation, filling the bases, but neither Paolini nor Garcia find the winning shot.

At the beginning of the fourth Bocchi’s perfect game was interrupted, with Cesar Chacin’s valid bunt towards Garcia, then pushed to home plate by Graeham Luttor’s double to the right.

The haul of points continues in the fourth, with the complicity of the Hungarian pitcher who adds 2 personal fouls to the base due to Friscia’s ball, always played very far from the strike area, to Chacin’s second error, to the double of Rascal and to the single of Celli. At 6-1 the new pitcher enters, Alexander Ogg, replaced without having made eliminations, with Italy at 8-1. The music does not change with the third Magyar relief Benedict Lafferwhich was also too imprecise, and the Azzurri closed the fourth round at 13-1.

After 4 complete innings, 2 hits and 1 run allowed and 6 strikeouts, Matteo Bocchi gives way to Mattia Aldegheriwho after the single granted to Domiszc, resolves the fifth round with 3 consecutive Ks.

Goes into Tommaso Battioni for Mercuri, and his single, the first with the senior national team jersey, is all that Italy musters in its fifth attack, while in its sixth round Hungary moves its score with 2 singles to follow Chacin e Too much and Luttor’s sprint.

The bottom of the sixth brings Italy’s 2 scores 15-2with the validity of Giulio Monello which brings in Friscia and Celli and, again, an opposing defense in great difficulty.

The last defense on the mountain belongs to Nick Daviswhich easily closes a game that has already been decided some time ago.

The second appointment for Italy is Monday at 5.30pm; against the Sweden.
