JDA Dijon Leader David Holston Extends Contract and Aims for French Nationality

Best player in the French Championship in 2019, JDA Dijon leader David Holston extended his contract in Burgundy at the beginning of the summer until 2024, with an option for an additional season, he who was still at 13 .5 points and 5.9 assists on average in 2022-2023.

The 37-year-old American (38 in January) begins his ninth season in Dijon, with a break of a few months in Turkish D2 in the fall of 2017. Returning to Burgundy in January 2018, he has now been a French resident for more than five years and aspires to obtain French nationality, as the club’s sports director Fabien Romeyer revealed to Bien Public at the start of the year.

“I’m going to have to learn French, but I’m going to take lessons. »

On Wednesday, in Paris as part of the LNB media launch, Holston confirmed his wish to obtain his French passport: “I hope, I pray for that, I really want it. Coming to France is probably one of the best things that has happened to me. It’s in progress, there are documents to be sent between the United States and France, so I will be told when it is ready or about to be ready. I think it’s on the right track. »

Information confirmed by the club: “We are in the process of finalizing his naturalization file. It’s a complicated and very long process, but we hope for progress this season. »

Dean of the French Championship, the 1.67 m leader details the reasons for his choice: “This course in Dijon makes me very happy. I am honored to have been here for so long: I really feel at home (he insists). I fell in love with France, it’s literally where I feel at home. I am at peace with it, happy and grateful. »

A decision motivated by discussions around the playmaker position with the Blues? “Yes, I saw that there were debates around this position in the France team, but I think I would be too old to honor a first selection,” he said with a burst of laughter. I know, on the other hand, that I will have to learn French, but I will take lessons. If I come back next year, I hope we can do the interview in French (laughs). »
