Julian Nagelsmann is the new coach of the German national football team

The German Football Federation has announced the hiring of Julian Nagelsmann as the new coach of the men’s national team. Nagelsmann, who is 36 years old, will replace Hans-Dieter Flick, sacked at the beginning of September after a long series of disappointing results and lack of reactions from the team (no coach had ever been sacked from the German national team in over a century of history).

Nagelsmann was introduced on Friday and had not coached since being sacked by Bayern Munich midway through last season. He has long been considered one of the best emerging coaches around: he has won two German championships and in 2017, when he coached Leipzig, he was voted German coach of the year. With Germany he signed a short-term contract which will expire after the European Championships scheduled for next summer in Germany, at the end of which he will be able to decide whether to stay or return to coaching club teams.
