The pitcher Julio Urías is once again involved in a case off the field after being arrested Sunday night in the city of Los Angeles due to suspicions of serious domestic violence, for which the Mexican could become the first player to violate two times the Major League Baseball (MLB) Domestic Violence Policy.

Reports indicate that security elements at Exposition Park detained him around 11 p.m., after the soccer match between Los Angeles FC and Inter Miami, Lionel Messi’s club, ended. The Mexican pitcher reportedly spent the night in custody until he was released around five in the morning after posting $50,000 bail.

The Dodgers and Major League Baseball have already reportedly launched their investigation into the incident.

In the event of imposing a sanction, however minimal, Julio Urías would be the first repeat offender player for failing to comply with the Major League Baseball Domestic Violence Policy established in 2015. In the list of previously disciplined players are the Dominicans Marcell Ozuna, Carlos Martínez and Domingo Germán, the Venezuelan Odubel Herrera, the also Mexican Roberto Osuna and the Cuban Aroldis Chapman.

Trevor Bauer is the player with the longest suspension in history having been banned for 324 games; after appeal, his disciplinary measure was reduced to 194 games, which still remains the highest number.

Urías was arrested in May 2019 for a domestic assault and was suspended 20 games by the Major League Baseball commissioner’s office; the Los Angeles city attorney’s office dropped the charges against him on the condition that he complete a year-long domestic violence counseling program.
