Czech tennis player Barbora Krejčíková defeated Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 6:4, 6:3 at the tournament in San Diego and will play for the final.

Krejčíková was waiting for a win since Wimbledon, where she had to withdraw from the 2nd round match due to an ankle injury. The grass Grand Slam was followed by losses in the opening matches of tournaments in Cincinnati, Cleveland and the US Open.

In San Diego, however, the Czech tennis player, the tournament’s top four, is doing well and is in the semi-finals after a win over the seventh-seeded Brazilian.

Krejčíková, the thirteenth player in the WTA ranking, took her opponent’s serve in the first game of the match, and although she did not serve the set at 5:2, she managed to do it on the second attempt.

“I remained calm. I expected her to fight and try to take advantage of every opportunity. But I concentrated on myself, on my strikes,” Krejčíková described.

Even in the second set, the Czech immediately broke her opponent, soon took a 3-0 lead, and although she once again lost her serve, she ended the match after an hour and 43 minutes with a second converted match point.

The tennis player from Ivančice won the third mutual duel against Haddad Maia and will play against Danielle Collins in the final.

Krejčíková, who is two years younger than the 29-year-old American, the 43rd ranked player, has not yet played on the WTA circuit.

“I’ve never played against her, I’ve never trained with her, so I don’t know what to expect,” said the champion of last year’s Roland Garros.

Krejčíková has six singles titles, the last one she won in February in Dubai. She played the final in Birmingham in June.

In the title game, Krejčíková is also in California with her traditional doubles partner Kateřina Siniaková, today they also face the semifinals.
