A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department broke the silence and this Tuesday revealed the reasons why Julio Urías, the Mexican pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB) was arrested.

Urías was arrested Sunday night by security elements at Exposition Park, a park that houses the BMO Stadium where Lionel Messi had played a Major League Soccer match attended by a wide list of celebrities.

According to the spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Julio César Urías was arrested for a “felony bodily injury to his spouse or domestic partner.” María Lucero, LASD representative, confirmed the felony charge. The Department of Public Safety has yet to release further details about the arrest, while the Dodgers limited themselves to comment even though they are “aware of an incident involving Julio Urías.”

Urías posted $50,000 bail and was released early Monday morning, according to sheriff’s department records. He is due to appear in court on September 27.

Major League Baseball intends to launch its own investigation.

The Mexican pitcher is the second starting player for a contending Major League club to come under investigation. The Dominican Wander Franco is on administrative leave while he faces two lawsuits and an extra investigation by authorities of the Dominican Republic for an alleged improper relationship with a minor.

The careers of both have been called into question due to their actions and the potential consequences they may face.

Julio Urías is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA with the Dodgers through 21 starts this season. By not being placed on administrative leave or the restricted list by Los Angeles, he will continue to collect his $14.25 million contract, which will expire after the World Series ends.
