Malaysia’s National Shuttlers Dominate in World Junior Championships, but the Real Test is Yet to Come

PETALING JAYA: Three down, but the real test is still ahead for the national shuttlers in the mixed team event at the World Junior Championships.

The team, led by Mohd Faiq Masawi in the men’s singles, secured their third consecutive win when they breezed past Latvia 5-0 in Group C in Spokane, the United States on Tuesday.

The other points were delivered by Bryan Goonting-Aaron Tai (men’s doubles), Ong Xin Yee (pic) (women’s singles), Chong Jie Yu-Carmen Ting (women’s doubles) and Low Han Chen-Chan Wen Tse (mixed doubles).

Malaysia had beaten Poland 4-1 and Austria 5-0 on Monday.

However, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) acting development director Joanne Quay knows that tougher tests lie ahead in the team’s quest for a medal.

“It was a great win for the team,” said Joanne.

“However, the players cannot afford to rest on their laurels as they are tougher matches after this.

“The players though are ready for the challenge.”

Malaysia will face England next in their last group match. They need to a win to finish top of the group and make it into the quarter-finals.

England have also won all their three group matches.
