Martirosjan finishes top ten in the snatch at the World Championships

Weightlifter Sargis Martirosyan achieved a top ten place in the snatch at the World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 37-year-old from Linz won the B group ranking in the snatch with 171 kg in the weight class up to 109 kg on Saturday and can only be overtaken by the nine athletes from the A group in the evening. Meanwhile, Sarah Fischer (class from 87 kg) had to miss her start at short notice due to back problems.

In the clean and jerk, Martirosyan only managed 180 kg after the judges ruled his 187 kg attempt invalid. In the duel, the two-time Olympian finished fifth, which in the worst case scenario means 14th place in the overall ranking.
